Abstract: Based on the survey data of light liftnet in northern region of Diaoyu Island during July to October of 2012, combining the social investigations and history data, the production situation, catch species, the biological characteristics of main species and degree of development and utilization of light lift net fishery were studied and analyzed. Results indicated that the area of fishing ground was about 2.78×107km2, with more than two hundred light liftnet vessels fishing in the northern region of Diaoyu Island throughout the year and the best fishing period is from July to October. The average daily production was 5.08t and the production value per vessel in good season was about 1.8 million, which has good economic benefit. There were 27 species which included 23 fish species and 4 cephalopod species.The mainly catching Pneumatophorus japonicus, Auxis thazard, Decapterus maruadsi and, squids accounted for 36.8%, 27.9%, 16.2% and 7.8% respectively. They are pelagic species with characteristics of short life period, rapid growth rate and large resources recruitment. In general, the resource exploitation and utilization was reasonable.
