Preliminary study on hybrid Epinephelus moara (♀)×Epinephelus akaara (♂)

The research aimed to provide basic data for the interspecific hybridization economy utilization of grouper species. We conducted hybridization between Epinephelus moara (♀) and Epinephelus akaara (♂) by artificial methods. The growth and wintering were made systematic observations of the hybrid F1. Rate of fertilized eggs and rate of hatched eggs were about 90%. Rate of abnormal larva of hybrid was higher compared the control group. The growth trend in hybrid F1 was close to female Epinephelus moara,and the body color in hybrid F1 was close to paternal Epinephelus akaara. The hybrid F1 could live through the winter normally and they could be utilized in the aquaculture production in the future.
