Abstract:
A 40-days feeding trial was conducted to determine compensatory growth and biochemical parameters after experiencing cycles of starvation and re-feeding in juvenile brocarded carpbody length(10.63±0.20)cm,body weight(17.63±0.72) greared at(27.0±1.0)℃.Four feeding regime groups were designed as follows:starved 1 d,then fed 3 d;starved 1 d,then fed 5 d;starved 2 d,then fed 3 d and starved 2 d,then fed 5 d,while one control group fed daily. The results showed that the specific growth rate and feeding rate of 1 day of starvation followed by feeding groups were significantly higher than control group(
P<0.05),while the difference of final average length, final average weight, total food ration, weight gain rate and feed efficiency were not significant(
P>0.05),showing a completely compensatory growth, and it is presumed that compensatory growth should be achieved by increasing the feeding rate. The final average length, final average weight, total food ration, specific growth rate and weight gain rate of 2 days of starvation followed by feeding groups were significantly lower than control group(
P<0.05),while the difference of feeding rate and feed efficiency were not significant(
P>0.05), showing a non-compensatory growth, and whether the damage to its physiological function needed to be further studied and determined.Compared with control group, the body protein and lipid of four feeding regime groups were metabolized and replaced by moisture and ash.Based upon the effect of compensation and actual days of feed intake, the cyclic feeding regime of starved 1 d,then fed 3 d could be recommended for the brocarded carp rearing under the present experimental conditions.
