Abstract: The present review summarized the source, types and chemical structure of phlorotannins. The research progress of cosmetic efficacy of phlorotannins, such as whitening, anti-aging, anti-oxidation, anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic activities of phlorotannins,was also pointed out. Moreover, the market prospect of developing new cosmetics withphlorotannins was reported in order to provide references to further research and their potential use in functional cosmetics.
